This stunning artisanal piece is a mid-century modernist ceramic patera/bowl designed by Dutch ceramist Pieter Groeneveldt in the 1960s. It is crafted from raw, textured ceramics featuring a wide, shallow well and a distinctive thick, quarter-round border. The center showcases an extraordinary deep turquoise and ocean-blue pool glaze. This is accented by thick, transparent enamel pooling that creates an organic, geode-like crackle finish (crazing pattern). Typical of Groeneveldt’s mid-century modern style, the piece relies on a striking contrast between the earthy, rustic exterior and the vibrant, luminous glass-like finish inside.
