Hans Maurus (German, 1901–1942) was a highly regarded landscape painter, widely celebrated for his masterfully composed alpine vistas and scenic portrayals of Upper Bavaria. Maurus frequently stayed and worked in the picturesque lakeside commune of Rottach-Egern, situated along the shores of Lake Tegernsee, Germany. In fact, his deep connection to the area led him to routinely include the location inscription "HANS MAURUS / ROTTACH EGERN" alongside his signature on many finished oil canvases.
